Bee Creative are one of the groups that make up the Frodsham Bee Friends Warm Welcome Space in Cheshire. In November Bee Creative made eighty knitted items as special warming gifts for every guest. Now they are all ready for Christmas!
Angela Bailey shares what Bee Creative have been doing to get in the festive mood.
By the end of the summer, the poppy displays and winter warmth items were largely completed and ready for their events in the autumn, thus allowing the Bee Creative’s sights to be firmly set on the festive season.
By this time, the group had grown from the original four members to an enthusiastic and inspiring team of ten! Skills, abilities, and interests varied considerably but everyone was keen to have another group project. It was an opportunity to demonstrate that the group is really so much more than just a craft group, with friendship and support, caring and sharing, humour and hugs being at the core of all its activities. The question was "what do we do?"
Coincidentally, and most fortuitously, the Frodsham Methodist Church announced its plans for the annual Christmas Tree Festival. Local community groups were invited to take part by decorating a tree. This gave the perfect opportunity to satisfy the creative juices of the Bee Creative group, whilst also giving Bee Friends a presence at the festival for the very first time!
We made around 150 crafted items, with a traditional colour theme of red, green, white, and gold. No matter how unseasonal, no Bee Friends Christmas tree could ever be without bees and thus the bee picnic party evolved into what was described by the organiser as the highlight of the festival! Additionally, every item on the tree started with the letter B - bees, baubles, bows, boxes, bells, and beads.
Bee Creative personify the Spirit of Christmas!
