Warrington’s Coffee Bar: Turning hope into lasting change

October 2026

Much more than a café, Holy Trinity’s Coffee Bar offers a dependable welcome in Warrington’s town centre. Coffee Bar is a place where people are seen, heard and welcomed, where people can chat, join in, receive help, or simply sit quietly and be safe. It is a lifeline to the Community supporting people through connection ,kindness, empowerment, volunteering and partnerships.

‍

Measurable Impact

The Coffee Bar team says, “It embodies a “Chain of Hope” by keeping a safe place open, mobilising community action and helping people move from crisis towards stability.”

‍

In 2025, the Coffee Bar delivered 133 sessions across 47 weeks, with 4,500+ visitor attendances supported by 3,000 front-of-house volunteer hours.

‍

In recognition of its impact, Coffee Bar was awarded five-year funding by The National Lottery Community Fund, enabling it to sustain and develop its work, and ensure long-term resilience.

‍

Changing lives and local systems

The Coffee Bar’s impact is lasting because it changes both lives and local systems.

‍

For guests, the Coffee Bar reduces loneliness and improves well-being and confidence while enabling practical outcomes through a dignified, low-threshold, collaborative approach. Stories evidence sustained, real-world change, including supporting homeless people to access housing, rehousing a young mother and baby, and crisis stabilisation for a young person with no access to public funds while building pathways into medical and housing support.

‍

For Warrington’s wider system, Coffee Bar strengthens prevention by building networks and reducing barriers between agencies, creating a trusted, non-stigmatising setting where collaboration works.

‍

One example is hosting a Creative Remedies wellbeing marketplace that brought 10 VCFSE, statutory, and third-sector organisations into Holy Trinity, alongside an NHS Living Well Bus which reported 47 blood pressure checks, one of its highest-attended sessions.

‍

The Coffee Bar keeps a warm space open, strengthens networks, and turns hope into lasting change.

‍
Walking alongside guests

One story that captures Coffee Bar’s impact over time is a guest who first came to Coffee Bar while homeless and isolated. Without a stable address and without trusted relationships, they were unable to access key systems that many people take for granted.

Over two years, Coffee Bar provided a consistent place of warmth, safety, conversation, and belonging. Crucially, it was a place they could return to week after week, without judgement and without pressure, until trust grew and change became possible.

‍

Building trust

As that trust developed, Coffee Bar supported them with listening and pastoral care, food and practical help. With the guest’s permission and at their pace, Coffee Bar helped them take the next steps, not by handing over a leaflet, but by walking alongside them to connect them with housing support and outreach services. Coffee Bar stayed alongside them throughout the long process of moving into stable accommodation.

‍

Once housed, the chain of hope continued. With an address in place, Coffee Bar helped them apply for essential identification documents (including a driving licence and passport), critical steps that had not been possible during homelessness and which significantly improve long-term prospects for employment, independence, and stability.

‍

They continue to visit Coffee Bar, not in crisis but as a valued part of the community.

‍

Warm Welcome Awards

Holy Trinity’s Coffee Bar received an honourable mention for the Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown Chain of Hope Award.
