Warm spaces across the country offer warmth and hospitality for people who are looking for connection, safety and a sense of belonging. Through our campaign we would like to empower Warm Welcome Spaces to become agents of change and catalysts for public action.
Through our series of training sessions in community organising we aim to inspire and equip grassroots leaders, volunteers and guests with new tools that will help them harness the collective power of warm spaces to make change and tackle some of the issues they are facing. We will share stories and testimonies of leaders who apply organising tools to turn their food banks into relational spaces that bring people joy, support refugees and asylum seekers to develop their leadership skills and a story of a church fighting for more lights to make their neighbourhood safer.
We are going to run three online sessions in January, February and March. Everyone is welcome to join us for the training and a week later, a follow up drop-in session to help you plan how you can implement new learning into your activity.
The first session “Warm spaces as a place for connection” will cover the values and techniques to run a relational space where people come together, share their stories and develop a strong relationship of trust across difference.
The second session “Warm spaces as a place for listening” will cover tools and examples of creating safe spaces to listen to people's worries and concerns around the cost-of-living crisis and other issues and how listening can lead to hope and change.
The third and final session is “Warm spaces as a vehicle for action”. We are defined not by our words but by our actions. This session will teach techniques and strategies to move from listening to concrete action. This session will cover how we transform stories into winnable outcomes and develop those involved along the way.
The Warm Welcome training is an opportunity for you to learn the basics of community organising and how this craft can transform people and communities to effect change on a local and national level.
